What I did on Facebook Part 2

Looking into the fact that 'What I Did on Facebook Part 1' failed miserably to spread the word out, I'll just end the sequel here with a Part 2 and a full stop to it.

Gosh, it was supposed to be a post with ‘The End’ and ‘The Beginning’ of all of us using the application for a good cause. Now, I am ending this post before it can even begin. *Emo-ing*

This is to all Facebook users and fanatic alike … ^.^

Now, I am sure all of you are quite skeptical about the various charity applications on Facebook.

You may ask …
Is it true? Are they donating? Is This a hoax? Am I wasting my time?
… the list may go on till you fall into a hysterical fit … LOL

Anyway, not to worry as my friends at Facebook, William Trusty and Stephen Batch, have indeed solved some of the puzzle.

According to Will, certain Facebook applications donated over $54,000 dollars. What Will did is to broaden up his network, checking donation records and verifying them for us.

The Good Application

'Click to Give' reminds you to visit The Hunger Site each day and keeps track of how much food you helped raise.

To date, more that 200 million visitors have given more than 300 million cups of staple food.

(records and letters by 'Donate Rice)

Play a vocabulary game in 'Donate Rice'. For every word you get right, they'll donate 25 grains of rice through the World Food Program.

For every day that you keep 'Give Rice' installed, they donate rice through the UN World Food Program.

Ripple is a way of donating to charity without using any money. You essentially view an advertisement from the sponsors. 100% of the money for the advertisement you view goes to charity.

Based on your participation in the H2Opian neighbourhood, the developers of H2Opia will make monthly donations to support WaterAid's mission of providing clean water and sanitation to people in need around the world.

By planting trees and plants with your friends through '(Lil) Green Patch', you can help make the world a greener place! Their sponsors contribute money to save the Rainforest and funding a portfolio of reforestation projects.

'Save the Earth' give money to save 10 sqft of rainforest for each person who signs up, and the more you plays, the more will be donated to charity focused on restoring the rainforest and preventing global warming.

Note: Game style is similar to Battle of the Bands.

By playing 'Sea Garden' and sending creatures back and forth, you and your friends will help save oceans and seas from pollution and destruction.

This is because Sea Garden have committed to donating a portion of the proceeds to key ocean saving charities, such as the Surfrider Foundation.

Rescue endangered animal babies, send them to friends for rescue, raise them in your own Wildlife Reserve and release them into the wild, or sending mating request to breed babies!

Sponsors contribute money to save endangered animals and their habitats as you use this application.

My favourite application ... Let you feed children in your name for free simply with the click of a button! When you add the Spare a Click application to your Facebook account a button appears on your profile.

All your friends can click that button and one child is fed for each time they click. It is made possible by Care2 and Give Team.

The Bad Application
(click on the image for more information)

When no donation records are to be found from an application, a letter will be written and sent to the charity foundation. If there are no answers, well, I think we all know what it means.

For every dish shared with a friend, 'Share your Lunch' donate 5 grains of rice to the poor and the needy.

Help save thousands of innocent horses from being inhumanely slaughtered! Once the petition reaches its goal of 250,000 signatures, 'Save innocent horse from slaughter' will forward it to relevant government and private agencies.

The annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. Every year, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are brutally killed for their fur. They've set up a quick and easy way for you to help these defenseless creatures-- simply by playing a trivia game.

Note: Seal hunt still very much at large. Poor seals …In my opinion, this application is more towards awareness kind of thing … not donations.

Help save homeless shelter cats, kittens, dogs and puppies just by putting a picture of an adorable kitten/puppy on your profile. ‘Save Shelter Cats & Kittens’ & 'Save Shelter Dogs & Puppies' donate one kibble of food to abandoned cat shelters for every correct answer!

THE END

Sorry for the lengthy post though. As I mentioned earlier, this will be my last ‘What I Did on Facebook’ post.

*Emo-ing* again ... LOL

I hope you will find this post useful. Instead of sending your friends virtual flowers, toys, animals and etc, why not make use of the good applications above for a good cause.

A little makes all the difference.

Thanks for reading.
