What I did on Facebook Part 2

Looking into the fact that 'What I Did on Facebook Part 1' failed miserably to spread the word out, I'll just end the sequel here with a Part 2 and a full stop to it.

Gosh, it was supposed to be a post with ‘The End’ and ‘The Beginning’ of all of us using the application for a good cause. Now, I am ending this post before it can even begin. *Emo-ing*

This is to all Facebook users and fanatic alike … ^.^

Now, I am sure all of you are quite skeptical about the various charity applications on Facebook.

You may ask …
Is it true? Are they donating? Is This a hoax? Am I wasting my time?
… the list may go on till you fall into a hysterical fit … LOL

Anyway, not to worry as my friends at Facebook, William Trusty and Stephen Batch, have indeed solved some of the puzzle.

According to Will, certain Facebook applications donated over $54,000 dollars. What Will did is to broaden up his network, checking donation records and verifying them for us.

The Good Application

'Click to Give' reminds you to visit The Hunger Site each day and keeps track of how much food you helped raise.

To date, more that 200 million visitors have given more than 300 million cups of staple food.

Website: The Hunger Site

(records and letters by 'Donate Rice)

Play a vocabulary game in 'Donate Rice'. For every word you get right, they'll donate 25 grains of rice through the World Food Program.

For every day that you keep 'Give Rice' installed, they donate rice through the UN World Food Program.

Ripple is a way of donating to charity without using any money. You essentially view an advertisement from the sponsors. 100% of the money for the advertisement you view goes to charity.

Website: Ripple

Based on your participation in the H2Opian neighbourhood, the developers of H2Opia will make monthly donations to support WaterAid's mission of providing clean water and sanitation to people in need around the world.

By planting trees and plants with your friends through '(Lil) Green Patch', you can help make the world a greener place! Their sponsors contribute money to save the Rainforest and funding a portfolio of reforestation projects.

'Save the Earth' give money to save 10 sqft of rainforest for each person who signs up, and the more you plays, the more will be donated to charity focused on restoring the rainforest and preventing global warming.

Note: Game style is similar to Battle of the Bands.

By playing 'Sea Garden' and sending creatures back and forth, you and your friends will help save oceans and seas from pollution and destruction.

This is because Sea Garden have committed to donating a portion of the proceeds to key ocean saving charities, such as the Surfrider Foundation.

Rescue endangered animal babies, send them to friends for rescue, raise them in your own Wildlife Reserve and release them into the wild, or sending mating request to breed babies!

Sponsors contribute money to save endangered animals and their habitats as you use this application.

My favourite application ... Let you feed children in your name for free simply with the click of a button! When you add the Spare a Click application to your Facebook account a button appears on your profile.

All your friends can click that button and one child is fed for each time they click. It is made possible by Care2 and Give Team.

The Bad Application
(click on the image for more information)

When no donation records are to be found from an application, a letter will be written and sent to the charity foundation. If there are no answers, well, I think we all know what it means.

For every dish shared with a friend, 'Share your Lunch' donate 5 grains of rice to the poor and the needy.

Help save thousands of innocent horses from being inhumanely slaughtered! Once the petition reaches its goal of 250,000 signatures, 'Save innocent horse from slaughter' will forward it to relevant government and private agencies.

The annual seal hunt is the largest slaughter of marine mammals on Earth. Every year, hundreds of thousands of baby seals are brutally killed for their fur. They've set up a quick and easy way for you to help these defenseless creatures-- simply by playing a trivia game.

Note: Seal hunt still very much at large. Poor seals …In my opinion, this application is more towards awareness kind of thing … not donations.

Help save homeless shelter cats, kittens, dogs and puppies just by putting a picture of an adorable kitten/puppy on your profile. ‘Save Shelter Cats & Kittens’ & 'Save Shelter Dogs & Puppies' donate one kibble of food to abandoned cat shelters for every correct answer!

THE END

Sorry for the lengthy post though. As I mentioned earlier, this will be my last ‘What I Did on Facebook’ post.

*Emo-ing* again ... LOL

I hope you will find this post useful. Instead of sending your friends virtual flowers, toys, animals and etc, why not make use of the good applications above for a good cause.

A little makes all the difference.

Thanks for reading.

A New Layout !!! ... and a Toilet Joke ...

I've changed my blog layout a little ^.^ ... yay then !!! (Dang! Forgot to save an image of my previous layout ... sigh!)

What do you think? Comments please ... if you do have one ...

It is a combination of some Christmas elements (side background) together with some earthy flowery art (header and footer).

Even the music is changed if you have your speakers on ...

I've included some of my favourite Christmas songs ... starting with Mariah Carey's Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). Hope you like it though ... its festive and full of Christmas spirit.

Okay. I do admit that I am a huge fan of Mariah... especially the 90's Mariah when her vocal abilities and quality is still very much out of this world.

Anyway, I would like to share a toilet joke on this very post. Ain't dirty ... so don't you worry. Here it goes:-

Jack was barely sitting down when he heard a voice from the other stall saying ...

"Hi, how are you?"
Jack is not the type of person to start a conversation in the men's restrooms at a rest stop. Not sure what got into him but he answered, somewhat embarrassedly.

"Doing just fine here!"

The other guy says ...

"So what are you up too?"

What kind of question is that? At that point, he is thinking that this situation is too bizarre. Somehow he say ...

"Uhhh !!! I'm like you, just traveling east!"

At this point he is just trying to get out as fast as he can when he hear another question.

"Can I come over to your place afterwards?"

Okay, this question is just way too wacky but he figured out he could just be polite and end the conversation.

Jack tell him,

"Well, I have company over so today is a bad day for me!"

Then he hear the guy say nervously...

"LISTEN, I'll have to call you back. There's an idiot in the other stall who keeps answering all my questions.
LOL ... a little silly Jack is ... eh !!!

Last but not least .... would like to thank all of you who do feel and care about my previous post - A True Story of a Street Dog Named Jonah.

Appreciate it very much.

You see, I love animals and can't stand the sound of abuse, torture and cruelty. Therefore, it is important for me to spread it out loud and far in the hope that people will be aware of it ... and better still, do something about it.

Jonah getting treatment

I am not going to post anything related to Jonah for now. Please don't ask me why. Will reveal the reason once everything is settled. (FYI, Jonah is still battling).

Until the next post, ciao then ...

A True Story of a Street Dog Named Jonah

Latest : Jonah passed away on the 1st of December 2008. For more information, please visit 'A tribute to Jonah the street dog'.

: ( May Jonah rest in peace ) :

This is a true account of a street dog named Jonah in Van, Turkey.

Aww ... what a cute innocent dog : )

Anyway, straight to the point, one day, Jonah was hit by a car.

Calls to the authorities for help were unanswered. After lying in the street for 3 days with broken hind legs from that incident, the council sent out workers to collect and dispose Jonah.
(What !!! Jonah ain't garbage !!!)

Jonah tried to get away from them, dragging his broken hind quarters.
(You tell me what can a little dog do when it is hurt and scared?)

Jonah was screaming and then tries to escape as the workers are approaching : (

These men were filmed putting a noose around its neck, one for each man and dragging injured Jonah to the truck. Jonah screamed in agony while people stood by and laughed.
(What the ... !!!)

Jonah was tied and pulled roughly and without mercy !!! : (

Jonah’s cries went unanswered. Its small body was thrown into the back of the truck. Jonah was brought to the dump where it was later rescued.

With a shovel, Jonah was thrown into the garbage truck : (

The truck leaving the scene with Jonah inside

Amazingly enough, Jonah survived. Jonah was rushed to a veterinary clinic by concerned animal lover. His Turkish name was Karam.
(Karam, you are a hero !!!)

Do have a look at the video uploaded below ...

I had goose bump watching the video … how could they be such cold cruel human being.

Look at Jonah's hind legs : (

Jonah's fate was uncertain as the facility was not equipped to deal with its extensive injuries.

Jonah’s plight fast receiving international concern thanks to the internet social networks like Facebok and Myspace.
(Well, I came to know about Jonah through my Facebook friends - Avril Simms & Bev Hill)

It was reported on the 17th of January that Jonah’s condition was very poor. Jonah could not urinate or defecate. Jonah lost control of both the function (poor thing).

Also, Jonah’s hind legs was not responding to any stimuli due to a possibility of a permanent neurological damage (poor poor thing).

Jonah receiving its treatment

As of 19th November, Jonah managed to waive his tail
(I thought that area was paralysed … a miracle indeed)

According to the municipality of Van, Jonah had injuries in the ‘lumbal zone’ as well as in spines 1 – 2 – 3 – 4 – 5 – 6.

A veteriner showing reporters Jonah's injuries

Unsurprisingly, it was believed that Jonah’s injuries were not caused by the car crash incident.

No doubt it was the way Jonah was handled with a shovel and tossed into the garbage truck.

Following the tragedy of Jonah, Turkey’s most-widely circulating newspaper Hurriyet decided to launch a national campaign against animal cruelty in Turkey.
(Yay! That's the spirit)

Reporters taking photos for the national campaign

Sissy Macneil, a member of the World Voice for Turkish Animals (WVTA) started a petition for Jonah and Karam. Click here for the petition. Sissy was trying to adopt Jonah.

Jonah's latest photo

Today the 25th of November 2008 however, I receive another news that Jonah will not be given for adoption eventhough the petition exceeded way above the goal of 1,000 signatures.

Jonah will be going to a shelter home : (

Why the hell they make such a decision when there are so many people around the world willing to give Jonah a true loving home.

There is only one reason and it is in the name of Turk's honour. Apparently, re-homing a dog abroad is an insult.
(What the ... !!!)

Treating animals cruelly is a HUGE sin. They are hurting God's creation and that is an insult.

Get well soon Jonah ...

Note: Today's post is dedicated to Jonah and all the heroes/heroin in the World Voice for Turkish Animals (WVTA).

WVTA is an awareness group of the cruel treatment of Animals in Turkey.

MSN is closing down...you must be joking !!!

I received an email ... today in fact ... with the title :-
"MSN will begin to charge you money soon !"
It is a forwarded email claimed to be sent by the directors of MSN - Tara and John.

Awkwardly , they would like to apologize for interrupting (like ... duh !) but MSN is closing down.
"We know many of these messages have been sent out lately, and that they wouldn't be true. However, this one is in fact true, and it will occur soon."
The reason given is due to the fact that too many inconsiderate people are taking up all the names (ie. making up lots of different accounts for just one person), therefore, they only have like 578 names left.

Well, it certainly sounded like a chain mail ... urghhh !!!

Why is that?
"If you would like to close your account, DO NOT SEND THIS MESSAGE ON. "
(Very tricky here ... what it mean is if you want to continue to use MSN, forward it)

We would not recommend this because if in the future you'd like to use MSN, and you don't send this message on, you will be CHARGED to use MSN monthly.
(So, that is why ... going one huge circle to convey the message hurh!)

If you would like to keep your account, then SEND THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE ON YOUR CONTACT LIST.
(There is it ... a normal chain mail kinda message)

As we said this before, this is no joke, and we will be shutting down the servers.
(Another one)

Please send it on.
(And another one)
There is a lot of grammatical and spelling errors in the message. A laughing stock indeed for directors of a huge company to have such mistakes, isn't it.

Another thing is that a link (click here) is included and it lead me to this old old piece of news dated February 25th 2001. It says "MSN to charge user fee" ... Hello ... that was like almost 8 years ago ... LOL

I googled a little and found this ... it is by SOPHOS.

FYI, SOPHOS is a Security and Control solutions trusted by 100 million users and endorsed by industry analysts as a real alternative to Symantec and McAfee ... like ... wow!

If you did have a look at what SOPHOS found out you'll notice something.

Is the directors of MSN "Andy and John" or "Tara and John" ? ... LOL

I am not forwarding the email. It is all bullshit.

In my opinion the person who started this chain mail had nothing better to do.

Anyway, if MSN were to close down, no worries, I have Yahoo and Gmail to lean on to. After all, I never like MSN one bit .... am forced to use it because everyone is messenging with it ...

Hey, I thought MSN is now called "Windows Live" ... what a stupid chain mail !!!

Yoga (with worshipping & chanting) is prohibited

Okay, the yoga issue has been a boiling issue for several weeks already.

Few weeks ago, news had it that the National Fatwa Council will soon address the Yoga ban on Muslims.

I am not Muslim ... so why bother.

But, anyway, I still find it ridiculous. Practicing yoga will not harm anyone ... even a Muslim ...

If a person have a strong believe and are extremely dedicated to their religion, nothing can ever change their believe and faith !!!

AGREE ?

Back to this piece of news, The National Fatwa council has finally declared that the yoga practice which involves three elements of physical movements, worshiping and chanting as 'haram' (prohibited) in Islam.

PROHIBITED ... !!!

The National Fatwa chairman even said that by yoga-ing without worshipping and chanting, it will also lead to another ... "another" being the changes in faith and believe i guess ... and religion too in the worse case scenario ...

“We discourage Muslims to do yoga as a form of exercise because it will ultimately lead to religious worshipping and chanting which is against Islam.
Source: Anis, M. N. (2008). The Star ... as mentioned by the chairman ...

Islam is suppose to be a beautiful religion. But because of all this laws and regulation, it becomes somehow ridiculous at times.

Being a Buddhist, I do have Muslim friends. And, they are very open minded yet very devoted to their teachings. They are so strong religiously that all this laws will be like a joke to them.

Conclusion: What I can see is that 'The National Fatwa council' is so afraid of them and their people loosing faith in Islam. So, they eradicate all types of laws as a preliminary precaution.

So many things also 'No' !!! ...

I am just puzzled by all this ridiculous thingey...lol

Note: No offense intended ... it is just my personal opinion ...

What I did on Facebook Part 1

Facebook is such a phenomenon nowadays that everyone is getting one for themselves. Friendster is so yesterday ...

I have a Facebook account for almost a year already.

As a new Facebook user back then, I played all kinds of games. From Poker, Fluff Friends, Minjolt Games to Defence of the Ancient to Street Race, yes, I played all those useless application.

Within a span of several weeks, I find myself going nowhere with my Facebook account.

I might as well just stop playing as these games are nothing to shout about. It’s boring, it's repetitive, it's wasting of my time and it doesn’t contribute to anything.

Time to get rid of some of them ... and fast too ... XOXO

Now that all the clutter is cleared, why not then I add something more worthwhile?

So I searched ... and searched ... and I found this application called Spare A Click (SAC). That was like 10 months ago.

Look, I have 8057 clicks already...that's a lot LOL

All I have to do is to click on it, a pop up appears depicting all kinds of related ads and .. wolla! … advertisers will donate to charity (sounds familiar eh!).

You may questioned the legitimacy of SAC.

FYI, Give Team is a charitable organization dedicated to using power of the internet to help people. It has been certified by the United States federal government.

Care2 on the other hand is a social network that helps connect activist from around the world. Care2 has 9,000,000 members around the world.

I am no. 2 in the Malaysian SAC billboard currently ...

.
.
.

... and no 54 in the World SAC billboard. All hail the queen - the compassionate Sylvia Angus who tops the overall ranking ... and the rest of them of course. A job well done !!

Okay! You may think that SAC is something useless ... wasting all your time clicking for yourself and for others everyday.

But do remember that "A Little Makes all the Difference in the World".

At least I am doing something worthwhile !!! Who cares about the raking anyway ... ? I don't ...

Hey! Aren't all us blogger earned from the ads placed HERE !!!

Why not spare some time clicking for the children too ^.^

Next Post: What I did on Facebook Part 2

Note:
Streamys sucks. It's a love and hate relationship. Love because it provides you with internet connection. Hate because the connection is terribly slow at times (erm ... more like frequently eh...)

I took 2 days to finally post it ... thanks to a very unstable connection. Streamyx SUCKS big time LOL
